AUB Mediterraneo and SABIS® Sign Strategic MoU
Pafos, Cyprus – July 31, 2025:The American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SABIS®, a global education network operating in 21 countries across five continents.
The MoU was officially signed by Dr. Wassim El Hajj, rector of AUB Mediterraneo, and Mr. Carl Bistany, executive chairman of SABIS®, and marks a significant milestone in the university’s mission to expand access to high-quality, globally respected higher education.
Rooted in Lebanon, both the American University of Beirut (AUB), parent institution of AUB Mediterraneo, and SABIS® share a long-standing commitment to academic excellence and student-centered learning. Since its founding in 1866, AUB has been a beacon of liberal arts education in the region and beyond. SABIS®, established in 1886, has grown to become one of the most influential international school networks in the world. Its mission, to prepare students for success in college, lifelong learning, and responsible citizenship, closely aligns with AUB Mediterraneo’s purpose-driven approach to higher education.
Through this MoU, SABIS® students will be able to apply to AUB Mediterraneo through the SABIS® UniApp. “This agreement represents more than just institutional cooperation; it reflects the strong educational traditions and shared values of two institutions with deep roots in Lebanon and a global outlook,” said Dr. El Hajj. “With this collaboration, we’re creating new opportunities for students to pursue a purpose-driven, globally recognized university education, grounded in shared values and a strong educational legacy.”
Mr. Bistany added: “At SABIS®, we’ve spent over a century helping students build strong academic foundations, develop essential life skills, and prepare for success beyond the classroom. Our collaboration with AUB Mediterraneo, a twin campus of a globally ranked university with a legacy of academic excellence, offers SABIS® graduates a compelling pathway to continue their education in Europe at a values-aligned and internationally respected institution.”
