Undergraduate Programs

The American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo will offer five undergraduate programs in fall 2023. Undergraduate degree programs are four-year programs. Because all AUB Mediterraneo programs are cohort-based, we admit students only once a year, in the fall term.

AUB Mediterraneo bases its educational philosophy, standards, and practices on the American liberal arts model of higher education. All undergraduates are required to complete a General Education Program consisting of 90 European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and 150 ECTS as required by their degree program.

About the General Education Program

The goal of the General Education (GE) Program is to ensure that students are exposed to a variety of disciplinary lenses – including the natural sciences, social sciences, and the humanities – to promote the development of skills such as critical thinking, complex problem solving, digital literacy, quantitative reasoning, and communication skills. The GE program also includes a focus on ethics and civic engagement as part of the university's mission to develop responsible citizens, committed to serving their communities.

About the Orientation Program

All undergraduate students are required to participate in a three-week Orientation and Induction Program before they commence their first term of regular course work. The main purpose of this program is to prepare a diverse group of incoming students to take full advantage of the liberal arts education that AUB Mediterraneo offers. The program introduces students to the goals and approaches of a liberal arts education and how these contribute to students' professional, social, and personal lives after graduation. It also addresses some of the challenges students might face and how to take on those challenges – and encourages students to reflect about themselves and others.

The program will also be a practical orientation to AUB Mediterraneo including introduction of key personnel, facilities, support for student well-being, registration, advising, how to join student societies and clubs, and other aspects of the university.
